The 'killer on the road' bit didn't occur to me, but i buy it 100%. I read the "complete and uncut" extended version which came out in 1990. Stu, the main character, describes his most vivid pre-plague memory as the time he was pumping gas late at night and Jim Morrison pulled in for gas. This was years after his supposed death, and Stu said he could tell by Morrison's eyes that he was a man who could 'see into the dark.'
